Ayatullah Murtaza Mutahhari is one of the principal architects of the new Islamic consciousness in Iran. Mutahhari was born on February 2, 1920, near Mashhad. He studied Fiqh, Usool, Tafsir and Islamic philosophy. He studied in Qum from 1944 until his departure for Tehran in 1952. In Qum he was among the prime desciples of Allama Tabatabai and Imam Khomeini.
